Good nutrition during pregnancy and lactation is necessary for both the mother’s and the child’s health. As maternal micronutrient requirements during pregnancy and lactation are increased, it becomes more challenging to meet these requirements through the diet alone, especially in low-income settings. Many pregnant and lactating women globally do not meet these requirements, which has negative effects on their own health and immune function and on the health, growth and development of their infants. This document provides information on Multiple Micronutrient Supplemation (MMS) and it’s effect on the health of mothers and their children.
