Save the Children

Superfood for Babies is a global call to action to rediscover the importance of breastfeeding and to support mothers to breastfeed their babies – especially in the poorest communities in the poorest countries. The four major barriers that prevent mothers from breastfeeding are examined:

  1. community and cultural pressures;
  2. the shortage of health workers;
  3. lack of maternity legislation;
  4. inappropriate promotion of breast-milk substitutes.

This report puts forward a series of recommendations – to governments, international institutions and multinational companies – to ensure that every infant is given the life-saving protection that breastfeeding can offer.
