Save the Children
This study was conducted as part of Save the Children’s hunger crisis response in Yemen and aims to contribute to evidence generation and learning on the use of the Resourcing Families for Better Nutrition (RF4BN) Common Approach.
RF4BN seeks to reduce maternal and child malnutrition by addressing key drivers through a combination of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), nutrition-related social and behaviour change communication, and strengthened linkages between individuals, communities, and health and nutrition services.
This pilot longitudinal study was conducted to evaluate the impact of cash assistance, alongside nutrition education, on sustaining treatment outcomes (recovery) and preventing relapse among children under five.
Evidence shows that the RF4BN approach reduced crisis-level food insecurity, improved food intake and hygiene practices, and led to healthier dietary choices, even in contexts of severe poverty such as Yemen. In addition, the approach appeared to safeguard post-treatment nutritional recovery by reducing relapse risk and helping sustain anthropometric gains over time.
